Organization of improvement programmes and the estimation of the breeding value of animals

Basing on an agreement signed with the Polish Association of Horse Breeders the Institute is processing data obtained during performance tests and on this basis evaluates the breeding value of half-bred horses. Moreover, the Institute staff is monitoring the programme for the protection and preserve breeding of the Polish Primitive Horse (Konik). This includes elaboration of mating schedules in order to avoid inbreeding and retain the genetic variability within the population. A similar co-operation is possible with other organizations, running breeding programmes for different animal breeds or species.
